Greetings Div 17 and Div 19. If you are in Division 19, please read to the bottom of this post for an important reminder about our MovieMaker project in HCE class with Charlotte. For all classes, here is a summary of what happened in this week’s Humanities lesson:
- Book Refresher: We did a placemat activity to review the key plot events from chapters 1 – 7 of Crispin: The Cross of Lead.
- Book Conversation: We sat in a circle and each student shared:
- a passage from the book that they had marked with a sticky note
- the reason they chose that particular passage
It was an interesting discussion full of thoughtful insights on the characters, events, setting and big ideas in the novel.
- Readaloud: I read aloud from Chapter 8.
- Homework: For Friday, 13 March 2009, you are to read chapters 8 – 32 and place three sticky notes on the parts of the book that are most interesting to you. Be prepared to use your sticky notes on Friday to write a response journal entry.
As you’ve discovered in your reading of chapters 8 – 32, Bear likes to Juggle. If you’re interested in learning this skill, check out this video clip:
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR DIVISION 19: Please remember that Friday, 13 March is the showcase for our HCE 5 Dimensions of Health movies. You will have some time in class to finish working on your film. One important item to add to your movie is music. Please bring CDs or your mp3 player (with the adapter cord to connect it to the computer) so you can easily import the music you prefer into the MovieMaker program.
I’ll see you on Friday.
- Mr. Holbrook

When will we be watching our commercials?
